The Escape- The Grand Social RAFW Party

The Grand Social is a known site for playing host to some 33 amazing designers from across Australia, it has also proved it can stretch its tech legs and play host to the hottest party of fashion week at The Grand Social presents The Escape.
At the jungle themed venue guests had the chance to admire renowned photography duo Lyn and Tony's look book shots for The Grand Socials A/W campaign whilst listening to to the cool beats of internationally acclaimed DJ Natasha Slater, founder of the Milan fashion week party Punks Wear Prada.
Overall it was a rockin night filled with some of Australia's best fashion and design talent.

Below are a couple of photos we took of the night, unfortunately we only got a few due to it being so crowded and with low lighting.

RAFW SS 09/10 - Ellery

Stylist/designer Kym Ellery produced an edgy but feminine rock n roll aesthetic with a subtle 80's undertone for her SS collection.
Models strutted out to the sound of live band Hot Little Hands.
Key features included lace up detailing on skirts and jackets, prom style dresses and sharp shoulder detailing.

The highlight of the range for me is the copper cigarette pants and the peachy blazer featured above.

RAFW SS 09/10 - Alpha60

The Falling's underlying theme is summed up by the below;
"Heard about the guy who fell off a skyscraper?

On his way down past each floor, he kept saying to reassure himself:
So far so good...so far so good...so far so good.
How you fall doesn't matter. It's how you land!"
-La Haine

The collection had an eerie vibe and the models looked vacant which complimented the garments well. Key features of the collection were floor length skirts and dresses that draped beautifully, some with cut outs in the back, there were also knitted and layered pieces which created interesting texture+some nice relaxed tailoring in the menswear. This was all presented in a muted colour palette with hints of subtle print. I loved the quirky touch of the dolls head accessories.

RAFW SS 09/10 - Antipodium

Antipodium offered a refreshing alternative flavour at RAFW yesterday, they even featured some real models. The collection itself had a raw, edgy London 'it girl' vibe with tough layering in soft sheer fabrics, knitted leather leg warmers, chambray shirting and chunky docs.

RAFW SS 09/10 - Dion Lee

Dion Lee would have to be my favourite collection at RAFW so far. The range features impeccable tailoring, clean lines and an abundance of quirks + edge. I'm also loving the muted colour palette with sharp injections of neon blue. Dion Lee is a true talent and definitely one to keep your eyes on. I want it all, especially the blazer below.

Friedrich Gray - SS 09/10

Last night Friedrich Gray's innovative creator, Ben Pollitt, sent a dark collaborative collection down the catwalk featuring Momo Design scooter helmets giving the range an out of this world feel. The range featured slim fit leather jackets, raw edged tanks and plenty of experimental cuts in a predominantly black on black palette but was offset by a subtle injection of pastels and kaleidoscopic prints.

Aje SS 09/10 La Femme En Rose

Last night I had the pleasure of viewing Australian label Aje's SS 09/10 collection, La femme En Rose, a beautiful range mixing soft willowy fabrics with leather, sequins and hard-wear. The collection is ultra feminine in its delicious colour palette of soft pastels and metallics but is edged up by its black accents.

Each Aje piece is individually hand-crafted by

some of the most skilled artisans available.
All fabrics used in the creation of each garment are
100% hand-made, hand-loomed or hand-embellished
to ensure superior quality and individuality.
Each Aje piece is made with love and is something
to be treasured for it’s unique luxury.
