Tafe Graduate & RAFW Innovator - Soeli Pedrozo

Twenty two year old Soeli Pedrozo is one of the four TAFE Design Studio graduates who was chosen to show at RAFW this year and is certainly one to watch.

Pedrozo has experimented with shape, proportion and transformation in her collection ‘Study in Ink’. Inspired by botany, the range employs the manipulation of traditional fabric as well as the deconstruction of men’s tailoring to create new, contemporary forms and silhouettes. ‘Study in Ink’ is an expression of the nature of plants and their always changing, developing and transforming qualities. Pedrozo utilizes both natural fibres and industrial fabrics to achieve bold, sculptural pieces.

1.Describe yourself in a sentence.

Hard working and persistent, always searching for something new, pushing the boundaries.

2. What is your collections aesthetic?

My 2009 collection is experimental, sculptural, sophisticated and fun. The collection plays with different shapes and forms, with structured and deconstructed pieces, they all show something special.

3. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Inspiration can surge from innumerable places and subjects. It may just be in a piece of music, a thought or feeling. The concept behind my 09 collection is transformation, which in this instance originated from nature. The idea of how things develop and grow, being organically or architecturally.

4. Where do you see yourself in the future?

I see myself being able to create. I feel that this is just the beginning and I have much to offer. Working on this collection has been exciting and a learning curve for me and I want to develop many more ideas in the future within the fashion industry.
